Enjoyable to some demographics. In Sony Pictures brought a revival movie to the original comic and 80's animated TV show The Smurfs that seemed like a good idea Later in was the just as bad sequel to The Smurfs that failed more than the first with the same premise of cameos, unnecessary characters and product placement, and was downright awful spawning the films to roll in peyo's grave.
Later in is a fresh breath of air from the terrible Smurfs movies that Sony made, despite this new being made by Sony. Their adventure leads them on a course to discover the biggest secret in Smurf history as they race against time and the evil wizard Gargamel Rainn Wilson to find a mysterious village. The plot is your basic Lord of the Rings like quest where the characters are forced to handle environments and new creature that would either friend or eat them.
It is a reused basic scheme that Hollywood uses, but it's the execution to the specific details of what matters. The Characters are mostly reminiscent to the creator, Peyo's vision, and maybe some changes that either compel or drag the story either feeling annoying or acceptable. I feel that most of the background Smurfs would have been more reliable and interesting rather than the main smurfs.
While the acting is great with the voices not being original and rather that happy-go-lucky charm you either find endearing or redundant. The animation I will say is great though, and seeing the smurfs having more of a look to the comics did feel charming with how the other two, felt This movie has it's feel of the Trolls film from in which they kinda stole their expedition with revealing them in a musical standard.
Despite the similar impact, the movie does feel better with the movie barely spewing pop culture references and worthless innuendos. Overall, The Smurfs lost village is good movie despite the childlike humor in most scenes while giving a more character impact whether if you found the useful or useless to the plot.
The Plot is executed well in which i give credit for being better than the CGI smurfs movies. This movie can be better for some demographics specifically for younger audiences while boring adults or older teens. The movie is what i call enjoyable for a Point of View whether if you are a child with a pov for thrill seeing characters going on an adventure facing many adversity and discovering a new life.
You can pay respect respect for this film considering it has a lower budget than the other terrible Smurfs movies of 60 million with the others being over million, that is bull. I thought the movie was good despite some concerns in the characters not being that reminiscent from Peyo's original vision. If your child or little brother wants a smile on his face, let him watch this movie, and it is a better excuse to just enjoy it better than the previous trash films.
It kept me laughing and in suspense the entire time. What was Smurfette going to do? She has her own internal battles to fight; so is she going to overcome? What qualities has she learned from Papa Smurf? Will she be influenced or will Vexy influence her? Smurfs is your basic side-scrolling adventure, with a few Mode 7 levels put in for good measure. So it's not just a psycho idea, it's a reality. Who could have ever believed it?
The Smurfs is a side scrolling platform game, featuring the tiny blue characters from the well-known series of the same name. In a nutshell, Smurfette was captured by the evil Gargamel and taken to his manor. It is your duty to make the long journey to his lair and free her. In The Smurfs, the gameplay is very much based on platforms, in a very familiar Mario style, but more vertical rather than horizontal. Although all the little Smurf can do is jump, this is all that you really need to progress.
To reach certain places, you must jump on springs which you can also carry with you and place them wherever you need. The rest hedgehogs, for example must be avoided. On the screen you can keep track of your remaining health measured in tiny hearts, the number of lives, the number of leaves you collected, the remaining time and your current score.
Collecting 25 leaves will grant you an extra life, and hearts can be replenished by finding berries. You are also able to collect stars which, if you gather 25, will give you access to a bonus level; strangely enough, you cannot see how many you have collected.
The Smurfs has beautifully designed graphics, but only if you take them separately: the character sprites and the backgrounds. They both have their appeal, but the characters are very flat and cartoony, not unlike the comics, while the backgrounds are very detailed and significantly more dimensional.
Regarding the sound, there is not much to say except maybe that the effects could have been a little more realistic. It's not completely terrible. Hank Azaria did a very good job playing Gargamel and I could actually see the cartoon counterpart that he was based on. I didn't see this in 3D but I can imagine it would be pretty entertaining to watch in that format.
I just didn't pay for the 3D because I didn't want to pay more for a bad film, and I had been suffering with headaches lately. I didn't want to make it worse. With that being said, the film centers around the Smurfs escaping from Gargamel who found them in their village. In some weird way, they come across this portal they knew nothing about until that time, and they are forced to go into this portal in order to escape from Gargamel and his CG cat Azriel.
They must find a way back home while being hunted by Gargamel on the streets of New York, and Doogie is trying to not to get fired from his cosmetics job. One of my biggest problems is that I never felt connected to the Smurfs.
The only ones that I really knew was Papa Smurf who can ever forget Papa Smurf anyway , Smurfette and Clumsy Smurf who the only reason why I knew him is because they always reference how clumsy he is, gets left behind, and I knew that he was going to be the hero by the end of it all. Movie If a character in your film is the underdog, he will always prevail in the end. This film is no exception. The film is basically sloppy writing through and through, especially in the ending.
The film could have ended easily by having the adults handle all the work but we couldn't have a Smurfs climax without having them be the center of it. So they basically just have the adults just stand around somewhere as the Smurfs get their butts kicked by Gargamel. It's a kid's film and this film knows it. The kids will eat this up despite probably never seeing the cartoons.
It wasn't the worst film I've seen but certainly not the greatest of kid's films. It was directed by Raja Gosnell. I should have stayed far away. Smurf you, Raja. Fields Jul 30, Details Edit.
